A Content Management System or CMS, enables the site owner to add, edit or delete site content quickly and easily. The only skill required is to be computer literate. You do not need any programming skills. I love Content Management Systems because once set up, the website owner can take complete control over what is on his or her website. You can make changes at any time of day or night and from anywhere in the world!
For instance, you have a popular product featured on your site that attracts lots of customers and enquiries. Your supplier calls and informs you the product is now discontinued. Usually you would have to request your site administrator make changes to your site, taking time for you to convey the changes you would like, possibly expense to get the changes made and time for the changes to be effected.
During this delay customers are still being attracted by an obsolete product offering, generating obsolete enquiries and orders that have to be processed.
With a Content Management System you would take the call from your supplier, put down the phone, log on to your website, make changes and log out. Within minutes the product could be withdrawn or an alternative offered and the disruption to your business minimised.
